Great day of racing for the long weekend, and really strong 1400m field for the 3rd event. Some of the big names of the Spring return here for a shot at Open grade, and looks to be no real pace in the race. The data suggests that would suit Odeum, but very interesting numbers around So Si Bon and Pretty Brazen. You would expect Odeum to sit in the front pair, and So Si Bon and Pretty Brazen look to sit and make an early charge. Going with the seasoned campaigner in So Si Bon to ruffle the 3yo fillies, which may not be quite at their best first up at this grade. Interesting ratings for Plein Ciel also, that boasts a strong turn of foot from an ideal mid field position. If Odeum gives the field a chance, I want to be on So Si Bon at the odds.

Good Luck

RUNNER COMMENTRY

1 So Si Bon Big drop in grade from the Futurity, and he is a seasoned campaigner on a firm Flemington track. He looks to get a mid field sit on a soft tempo, and he is a great chance to fly home over the top. Value runner of the race.
2 Pretty Brazen Rates very well to just take a trail early and conserve energy for the turn for home. Decent track record, and followed a similar path to Odeum last prep. Goes well first up and expect to see her in the finish.
3 Iconoclasm Admired this guy for a while, and he pulls out an out of the blue pearler run every now and then. Not sure about this race though, where the data says he will need another run to be competitive.
4 Plein Ciel Really good first up record, and a lot of string ratings without great success last prep. Looks to get a similar run to So Si Bon from the middle gate, and should be able to put out a good pace to the line. Just not sure about this strong of a race first up.
5 Odeum Obvious headline for this race. Inches from two group 1s last prep. Only thing to note is the lack of progression from the 3yo crop to go on to open races with impact. Obviously the Empire Rose showed her quality against the mares. But an Open race first up might test her. Still, loves Flemington, and can’t see her out of the finish.
6 Gold Fields Not a lot of data support for the old guy. Might get out OK, but looks tough when the race gets serious.
7 Holbien On the back up, but unfortunate draw. Sir William a plus, but looks to take an early lead and find it tough late.
